WHO are TOP DECK GOLF?
THE PAST
Top Deck Golf are Daniel “DT” Thomas and Jason “TIGER” Wood who have shared a great childhood friendship through the game of Basketball since attending Willetton Senior High School as Scholarship students back in 1998. In 2001, DT made the jump to the USA, to attend college and live out his dream of being a professional Basketball player, whilst Jason remained in Perth and followed his dream of being a full time comedian.
The years went by and DT was travelling around Europe playing professional Basketball and Jason was performing numerous comedy shows around Australia. Due to a lack of social media and ability to communicate effectively, Jason and DT grew apart during this time and ceased to talk for over 17 years.
In 2019, 18 years after departing their separate ways, DT officially retired from the game of Basketball and began to find his love for GOLF again, and one night whilst scrolling through social media, he noticed Jason posting videos of himself playing golf. The two shared some deep reminiscent conversations and agreed to play a few rounds.
From this exact moment in time, DT and Jason set out together to improve, learn, enjoy and share the worlds most difficult, beautiful and in depth game to conquer…..GOLF!!!!

THE PRESENT
It all began with an idea and a $230 AUD entry fee to the World Amateur Match Race Tournament.
This global tournament is a season-long match play knock-out competition that starts locally in your country and ends with a magical golfing experience in Dubai in April or November, depending on your start date.
The competition starts with small local group races, each consisting of 16 teams. From each group race, 2 teams advance to the playoffs, where they compete for the directly decisive playoff spots for the final in Dubai.
DT and Jason, entered the tournament and played locally in Perth, with their base being Meadow Springs Country Club. They would compete against some amazing Amateur Golfers around Western Australia. 6 wins later and the boys were off to Dubai in April of 2023 to compete against players from all around the world and 6 continents.
In Dubai, DT and Jason would play at three magical world class courses that the DP World Tour plays on, and would win 2 out of the 3 days and go on to be crowned the 2022/23 World Amateur Match Race World Champions and earn themselves a direct return ticket to the next World Final to defend their title in November 2023. The boys are gearing up and ready to go, with a new found sense of confidence and love for the game.
THE FUTURE
We are now working hard on providing opportunities for other golfers around Australia, sharing their stories and trying to grow the sport at the Amateur level for all ages, genders and diverse backgrounds. The sport of Golf has been kind to them, and DT and Jason want others to share in those experiences.
This is why they will be running a bi-yearly golf event, in partnership with other stakeholders titled the Perth to Dubai Classic. This one tournament event will give one lucky team of two the opportunity to secure themselves, an all expenses paid trip to Dubai inclusive of flights, hotels, and golf to compete in the World Amateur Match Race World Final along side both of them.
